Fermentation Process Development

Faster Route to Optimal Process Development
DowpharmaSM uses factorial design in performing fermentation development at the 20 liter scale and in fully capable mini-bioreactors. This enables us to avoid the time-consuming step of establishing a base process with each project. Statistical design is used in every process development project to achieve a rational and efficient approach. In all cases, defined, animal component-free growth media are employed.

Dowpharma’s fermentation process development lab consists of 16 x 20 liter networked computer-controlled fermentors. This type of advanced infrastructure provides speed and flexibility in every process development project. High density fed-batch fermentation protocols controlled by proprietary computer software ensure fast, reliable scale-up from 20 liters to thousands of liters. Protein or peptide expression is optimized to production rates up to 1 gram per liter per hour, sustainable for extended periods. Protein yields well in excess of 25 grams per liter have been obtained, with over 50 percent of the total cell protein as the product of interest.
