Asymmetric Hydrogenation

Our collection of proprietary asymmetric hydrogenation catalysts comprises both our own catalyst systems and several powerful in-licensed catalytic technologies. We conduct unbiased screening projects for our customers, accessing our collection of more than 400 preformed catalysts, containing proprietary and non-proprietary technology. In addition, DowpharmaSM has developed the technologies to enable a secure supply of commercial quantities of ligands and storage-stable pre-catalysts. We have proven these technologies in commercial API manufacturing.

Dowpharma has secured a worldwide exclusive license from DuPont for the DuPhosTM/BPE family of asymmetric hydrogenation ligands for use in pharmaceutical applications. We have been developing these ligand and catalyst systems since 1995 to broaden both their commercial application and our readiness to use the technology for new opportunities. In addition to the in-licensed systems, we have expanded our range of catalysts to include the FerroTANE™ ligand series, which can give superior results on certain substrate types in comparison to other ligands.

asymmetric hydrogenation

Since December 2000, we have licensed from the Japan Science and Technology Corporation the technologies of Professors Noyori and Ikariya for the hydrogenation of ketone functions. With single-isomer chiral ligands, the ruthenium catalysts can be used at exceedingly low loading (e.g. 100,000:1 substrate / catalyst) to deliver high enantiomeric excess secondary alcohols. We found that a particularly valuable ligand in this technology is the bisphosphine PhanePhos, for which Dowpharma has a license from Merck Inc. Furthermore, Dowpharma has its own biaryl ligand HexaPHEMP, which is valuable for these and other related ruthenium-based catalysts.
